Pros and cons

Hi friends, today the post is about social media. The irony is that I am sharing the pros and cons of social media on social media itself.
Earlier, we used to communicate through letters, telegrams and post cards. Most of the kids of the new generation would not have even seen a post card. It was a wonder how someone could communicate their thoughts and feelings through words which anyone could read. Read between words was very effective back then.
Then came the world of internet, sms, pager when by clicking a button you could inform anyone in any part of the world.
Humans are so adaptible that we adjusted our requirements according to the mode of communication that was available.
Now is the time of social media where anyone can communicate and connect with anyone else, they can be unknown to each other.
But the basic fact remains that the two people involved are connected to each other in some way, in their thoughts, actions, sentiments or feelings.
So when the purpose is still being served, why is that a big issue.
The context of this post is that last week Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide. For whatever reason it may have been was his personal issue. There are lakhs of people expressing their opinion on different social platforms.
Some are expressing their disbelief, some their compassion, while others are expressing their feelings only because they want to keep up with the others.

Some are having an issue with this third category of people, as to how hypocrite they are. Eventually we are all hypocrites in our heart, but do not want to accept it.

My take on this is that social media is a medium to express ourselves to others, so when we can accept it for the advantages of how well we can connect with like minded people and share our ideas and grow, why cannot we accept the disadvantages of  social media too.
Why do we have to criticise another person for their message, after all that is what social media is for, and that is what any person is doing now.
Everyone wants to be heard and accepted, so let us just read what we want to read and ignore what we do not want to.

What do you feel about all this.

  3. I did with sorrow heard the news of a young man commit suicide .Whoever it may be it is shocking and sad.But he is star of bollywood sky. And as rightly been pointed out by Vijaya, Since we now have , social media to express ourselves, the entire world seemed to cry. To many of those who were not admirers of the silver screen, it seemed to be a needless and exaggerated outburst of emotion,It is not that they also did not feel sorrow in the death of a young man...

  5. Freedom of speech!! That's what it is. But I am of opinion that, why discuss anybody else's problems when we can rather improve ourselves from those incidents!! Vijaya, you are good to bring this in the light. Bravo!! I appreciate you. ❤️

  6. Human beings are gregarious by nature. So whether it is a virtual social interaction or a real one, we are wired to communicate and be part of a group of like minded people. You really can't find out if somebody is being a hypocrite even in the real world,so what to talk of virtual world! The point is to remain honest in our interactions. We need not be simulated models of one another.

  7. Aunty, so thoughtfully written, accept and move ahead or ignore and leave behind. We as humans are born to socialize and the fact is negativity garners much more interest. Even in olden days, while there was no social media, we were very social and the same problems existed. The magnification of it has become so much that it directly relates to our greed as well growing. In olden times, we send apost and dint expect Express replies , worked on trust maybe. Today, every instant or all that who are on social media expects gallons, so rather than a platform which should be helping each other, many a times we end up hurting each other.

  8. Dear Viji-Congrats for your timely & bold initiative.
The Title of your blog does show the acceptance of the fact that contrary views also exist on the use of social platforms.
Being an old-timer I do not have much use for the social platforms.
Today's younger generation are exposed to vast amounts of Visual Media & also to the Internet with Wi-Fi.The Internet providers also give vast amnts of DataPacks at low cost.
Youngsters cannot be faulted for using it.
Sadly, parental guidance does not seem to matter much in today's youngsters attitudes.
With both parents having to go for work;how many youngsters do get this guidance is itself doubtful.
Hoqever,do proceed with your good work.My Best wishes for your valuable efforts.

Looking forward to see more such blogs.-PSN
